Who We Are
The Free eLibrary Portal (FRELiP) is a non-profit initiative dedicated to democratising access to knowledge by provide free access to scholarly publications and educational resources. We aggregate open access (OA) and open educational resources (OER) from leading publishers, universities and research organisations and expose them through a user-friendly online portal.
Our Vision
To be a global hub for open scholarly and educational resources, ensuring that students, teachers, researchers and lifelong learners – regardless of location, income or social status – can access the information they need to learn, grow and succeed.

What We Do
• Aggregate: We collect metadata for journals, books, datasets and other resources from trusted OA and OER providers.
• Organise: We structure this information so that users can browse by discipline or search across multiple services.
• Connect: We link users to full-text content on publisher, repository and platform sites.
• Advocate: We promote the use and creation of OA and OER, and we support institutions that wish to adopt open practices.

Our Technology
FRELiP is built using robust, open-source tools such as:
- RSS and OPML – for harvesting display of scholarly journal feeds.
- VuFind – for the unified Discovery Service (in progress).
- SubjectsPlus – for building Research Guides (in progress).
Our Community
The portal is maintained by volunteers with extensive experience in librarianship, information science, digital repositories and educational technology. We also collaborate with partners and supporters who share our vision of open and equitable access to knowledge.
