An institutional repository is a university’s own digital archive — the place it preserves and openly shares the theses, articles, and datasets its community produces. This briefing examines the state of institutional repositories in Nigerian universities: what they make possible, the common obstacles of funding, staffing, and sustained maintenance, and why a repository is only as valuable as the metadata and harvesting standards that make its contents findable beyond the campus. We will discuss how OAI-PMH exposes repository records to aggregators, the role of green open access self-archiving, and how FRELIP’s discovery layer helps surface the scholarship these repositories work to preserve.
